Biography
With more than 30 years of experience, John specializes in architectural preservation, historical building analysis, and code review as Associate Director at HLZAE. John has specific expertise in detailing historic restoration projects and integrating modern materials with the historic fabric.
John worked on the façade restoration of 1185 Park Avenue, a large fifteen-story-and-penthouse neo-Gothic apartment building, which occupies the entire Park Avenue blockfront and with a spacious interior courtyard constructed in 1928-29. The brick facades of the building are enriched with terra-cotta and limestone of Gothic inspiration. The restoration included replacing over 300 decorative terra cotta units with new terra cotta and cleaning all street and courtyard facades.
John also led the façade restoration of 2 East 67th Street, a thirteen story apartment house constructed of limestone in 1927-28. The restoration include reconstructing the lower elevation corner and the roof bulkhead with new limestone blocks to match the existing stone.
John holds a Master of Architecture with a Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York. He is a Commissioner on the Historic Preservation Commission in the City of Plainfield, New Jersey.
