With over 8 years of experience, Ben Plotnick serves as the Director of Special Inspections at HLZAE. In this role, Ben leads all operations for the Special Inspections team across the Milrose platform, with a focus on driving performance, improving efficiency, and ensuring technical accuracy across all inspection services. He works closely with the firm’s leadership to implement standardized procedures, manage project budgets and timelines, and expand the department’s service capabilities. Ben also collaborates with the business development team, providing subject matter expertise on inspections and compliance requirements to support strategic growth.

Ben’s professional background spans several key roles in engineering and inspections. As Director of Special Inspections, he managed field engineering teams, reviewed technical reports, advised on complex inspection challenges, and helped execute sign-offs for TR-1, TR-2, and TR-8 inspection types to meet fast-paced construction schedules. In his role as Design Team Manager, he coordinated MEP engineers across disciplines, oversaw active project tracking, and facilitated DOB issuance of Letters of Completion. As a Mechanical Engineer, he designed HVAC and sprinkler systems in accordance with Building Code. Earlier in his career, Ben served as a Field Engineer, conducting special inspections on commercial and residential projects with scopes involving mechanical systems, fire protection systems, fireproofing, firestopping, energy code compliance, structural steel welding & bolting, masonry, concrete, and public assembly emergency lighting.

Ben holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. His certifications include ICC Commercial Mechanical, Structural Masonry, Steel Bolting, and Welding Inspector; ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector, Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level 2, and Adhesive Anchor Installation Inspector.
